(CNN in Spanish) -
More than 200 indigenous people took over the facilities of station number 5 of the Norperuano Pipeline on Tuesday in the Manseriche area, in the Peruvian Amazon, paralyzing the plant's hydrocarbon transport operations, Petroperú reported.
The company said in a statement that the seizure of the station is part of the call for the Amazon Strike that has been promoted by the Awajún Río Apaga Native Federation (FENARA) and the Peoples Affected by Petroleum Activity (PAAP), who demand attention of the Government for alleged breaches.
Petroperú added that it immediately evacuated all personnel at the station and paralyzed the hydrocarbon pumping operations.
