A 70-year-old from Freising caused a serious accident on Wednesday night on the A92 - the woman was driving behind the scenes.
Freising
- On Wednesday, shortly after midnight, a ghost driver was driving on the A92 - with serious consequences.
As the police reported, a 70-year-old wanted to drive her Passat at around 0:00 a.m. at the Freising-Süd junction in the direction of Landshut, but used the lane in the direction of Munich.
After almost five kilometers on the wrong lane, there was a collision: A 34-year-old from the Passau district overtook a tractor-trailer with his Dacia on the left when the woman approached him in his lane.
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
Two people seriously injured
Although the 34-year-old was still trying to evade, a head-on collision could no longer be avoided.
The Dacia was thrown to the right and hit the tractor-trailer that was driven by a 33-year-old from the Landshut district.
A 31-year-old man from Munich drove through the rubble field, seriously damaging his Smart.
The pensioner who caused the accident was trapped in her Passat and had to be cut out of the car by the volunteer fire brigade in Freising.
She was seriously injured in a Munich hospital.
The driver of the Dacia was also seriously injured and had to be flown to a clinic in the state capital by rescue helicopter.
The truck driver and the driver of the Smart were unharmed.
Traffic police are looking for witnesses
The Freising traffic police estimate the total damage to be around 31,500 euros.
In order for the rescue helicopter to land, the A92 in the direction of Deggendorf had to be closed for about 50 minutes.
The lane towards Munich was closed for more than three hours.
Not only rescue workers and fire brigade were on site, but also the Freising fire brigade with 34 emergency services and the Freising motorway maintenance facility.
To further clarify the accident, the VPI Freising is looking for further witnesses who were endangered by the ghost driver or who observed the collision.
