Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi condemned all forms of terrorism, including economic and drug terrorism and unilateral embargo, stressing that the embargo and sanctions measures target citizens of countries and are tantamount to terrorist acts.

In a speech during the Sixth Committee meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Takht Ravanchi considered that the only way to combat terrorism is to combat its roots, including occupation and military intervention in all countries, stressing at the same time the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to defend their rights against the Zionist entity.

Takht Ravanchi said that the absence of a comprehensive global treaty to combat terrorism and the lack of global consensus to provide a unified definition of it has provided the ground for the exploitation of this by some countries to take double standards in combating it and launching unilateral lists by accusing other countries and their constitutional institutions of supporting terrorism, indicating his country's support for the drafting of a treaty Global focus on countering and combating terrorism.

In a related context, Iranian Ambassador and Assistant Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zahra Arshadi stressed in a speech on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement at a meeting entitled (Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism) in the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly that terrorism cannot and should not be linked to any religion, people or nationality and exploited to justify Interfering in the affairs of other countries.

She said... that the Non-Aligned Movement condemns and rejects terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including state terrorism, and renews its support for all resolutions issued by the United Nations in the legitimacy of the struggles of peoples under foreign domination and occupation in order to achieve freedom and implement the right to self-determination.
