Several strangers blew up an ATM in Bad Oeynhausen on Wednesday morning and fled.
A resident dialed the emergency number after hearing the explosion and seeing debris on the street, the police said on Wednesday.
The perpetrators are said to have driven away in an unlit vehicle.
The force of the explosion shattered the windows of the building complex in which the ATM was located.
Bad Oeynhausen - Individual shards and other debris have flown up to 20 meters.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
It was still unclear whether the perpetrators stole money before they fled.
The use of the criminal police and forensics on site continued on Wednesday morning.
The amount of the damage was initially unknown.
