"Instead of constantly building new and larger roads, we need more public transport by bus and train, especially in rural regions," said the BUND chairman in Lower Saxony, Heiner Baumgarten, on Thursday.

The trunk road plans, which led to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, are therefore not compatible with the Basic Law and the Climate Protection Act, announced the BUND.
From the point of view of the environmental association, it is therefore questionable whether the plan can still stipulate a binding requirement for individual trunk road projects such as the A20 coastal motorway.
