The closed Salzbachtal bridge on Autobahn 66 near Wiesbaden is to be blown up on November 6th.
The city of Wiesbaden and the federal highway company announced this on Wednesday.
The closure of the ailing bridge has been affecting traffic in the western Rhine-Main area for months.
The superstructure on a pillar of the structure had sunk, chunks of concrete had fallen.
Wiesbaden - The important A66 between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt is interrupted at this point.
No train or road traffic is allowed to roll under the bridge either.
Wiesbaden Central Station is therefore largely cut off from rail traffic.
According to the information, the southern part of the bridge is to be blown up first and the north bridge only two seconds later.
The Autobahn GmbH announced that only bad weather such as heavy rain or fog could destroy the planned date.
