The transition of the Breslauer Weg over the state road 2369 must be defused, that is what many citizens think. But how? Ulf Ruck has thought about it.

The transition of the Breslauer Weg over the state road 2369 must be defused, that is what many citizens think.

But how?

Ulf Ruck has thought about it.

Geretsried

- The fatal accident on State Road 2369 at the level of Breslauer Weg continues to concern people.

A cyclist was hit by a motorcyclist while crossing the street and was seriously injured.

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.

An online petition calling for the situation to be defused has so far been signed by almost 2040 supporters.

Geretsried: After a fatal accident - do these immediate measures help?

One of them is Geretsrieder Ulf Ruck, who not only signed, but also has a suggestion for improvement as an immediate measure.

He pleads for the crossing to be closed, combined with the signposting of a detour.

The 65-year-old, who most recently worked as IT Engagement Manager at Nokia, knows the crossing from the perspective of both cyclists and motorists, and drives both routes regularly - and every time with a queasy feeling.

Motorcyclist dies in Geretsried - citizen sleeps in safety measures

“You can't jeopardize people's lives and health with your eyesight,” he says, referring to the crossing, which is only secured by stop signs and circular barriers and, with a view to the increasing traffic: “I don't let anyone use the autobahn either running. ”Because he has observed several times that motorists and motorcyclists don't necessarily drive slowly.

"Immediately after the Geretsrieder town sign, the accelerator accelerates to the 80 km / h zone at the junction into Jeschkenstrasse, and vice versa." He cannot judge whether road users would adhere to a speed limit on the entire route.

"Perhaps a six-month test phase would help here."

Accident commission meets in Geretsried

The date is already on the calendar: at the end of next week, the accident commission, consisting of representatives of the lower traffic authority in the district office, an officer from the Geretsried police inspection as well as an employee of the state building authority in Weilheim and one of the Geretsried city administration, will meet in the Geretsried town hall. The task of the Commission is to search for the cause of serious accidents in order to prevent something similar in the future.

"We will try to find an acceptable solution," says a spokesman for the Weilheim State Building Authority. All possibilities, from speed limits to “making the transition impassable”, are to be examined with regard to their positive and negative aspects. An alternative would actually be to guide the cyclists over the cemetery intersection. And: "About three years ago it was considered to lead the way under the Tattenkofener Bridge", said the official. "But here, too, an access road would have to be created first."

For the cyclists who use the route as part of the Munich-Venice long-distance route, this would not be a big detour, but: "Most of the cyclists or pedestrians just want to get from A to B quickly in urban areas - and take the shortest route." Seen in this way, there would be no one hundred percent guarantee that everyone would adhere to a barrier or a tree trunk.

Danger on the state road: cyclists have to cross the road at a speed of 80 km / h

Ruck suggests making the crossing “impassable” - for example by planting bushes - and that pedestrians and cyclists are diverted to the traffic lights at the cemetery intersection.

“The detour is barely a kilometer - it has to be worth your own safety.” On the Zehnerhüttenweg side there is already a cycle path in this direction, on the opposite side the route over the Breslauer and Berliner Weg would lead to the safe crossing.

Only: “The crux of the matter is that people naturally choose the shortest route.” Here one can only appeal to the insight of cyclists and pedestrians.

Geretsried: Petition started after an accident - two people died in ten years, several seriously injured

Otherwise, according to Geretsrieder, a rethink is also necessary.

For the authorities to take action, several accidents with personal injury must have occurred within three years.

But that was not the case between 2018 and 2020.

Ergo: The criteria are not met.

“We had three serious accidents between 2009 and 2021,” Ruck calculates.

“That is a period of more than ten years, but one must not forget that two people lost their lives here and there were several seriously injured.” Why, he wonders, “is the severity of the event not decisive for a situation individually, but the frequency? ”But no matter how you twist and turn it:“ Something has to happen. ”The many signatories of the petition see it the same way.
