Corona outbreak in a Bavarian nursing home: doctor explains the importance of the third vaccination

Thanks to the vaccination protection of over 90 percent of those affected, the course of the disease has been mild in the majority of cases, as the district office announced.

“This case shows that a corona infection is possible despite vaccination.

The risk of illness decreases, but it is not zero, ”says health care doctor Dr.

Christian Gunzel.

“When it comes to vaccination protection, the immune response of a vaccinated person also plays a role.

That means how many antibodies are formed against the coronavirus and how long they remain active in the body.

According to the current state of knowledge, older people and people with diseases of the immune system, for example, produce fewer antibodies and weaker immunity.

That is why the third vaccination is so important. "

Four sick people are treated in the hospital

In the past week, numerous residents of the affected facility received the third-party vaccination.

In contrast to previous cases with a very high hospitalization rate and many deaths, only four residents have to be hospitalized with the current outbreak;

none of them on intensive.

"At the weekend we tested all residents and employees of the home to determine the extent and spread of the infection," says the head of the Dachau Health Department, Dr.

Monika Baumgartner-Schneider.
