The energy provider Vattenfall and the company Eurofiber want to connect more than 500,000 households and companies in Berlin to the fiber optic network.
This enables faster and more powerful Internet connections.
The state of Berlin and the company signed a letter of intent on Wednesday.
Vattenfall wants to connect the network by 2026 and mainly use its existing district heating channels in the capital.
Berlin - “Only a fiber optic infrastructure will cope with the growing demands that arise from the new digital possibilities,” said Marco Sick, the head of the joint venture Vattenfall Eurofiber.

Deutsche Telekom also wants to enable faster Internet connections in Berlin.
She has made a million fiber optic connections by 2027.
They should allow a download speed of up to one gigabit per second.
So far, Berlin, like most of Germany, is still a largely white spot on the fiber optic map.
