The areas harvested from the cotton crop in Deir ez-Zor governorate to date amounted to 600 hectares out of the total cultivated areas amounting to 4216 hectares.
The Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, Engineer Abdul Hamid Abdul Hamid, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the cotton harvest operations, which began two weeks ago, are continuing and have expanded to include the various areas planted with the crop.
In turn, the head of the Department of Agriculture in the town of Al-Kharta, Eng. Ahed Al-Riyash, indicated that the condition of the cotton crop this year is good, after all production requirements were secured from Deir 22 seed, which is the appropriate type for the nature of the region, fertilizers and irrigation water, in addition to the continuous follow-up of the fields by the directorate teams and the guidance and assistance of farmers in carrying out biological control.
For his part, the head of the agricultural association in the town of al-Kharta in the western countryside of the governorate, Hamid al-Hussein, explained that the cotton harvest operations in the fields are going well, and the quantities that are harvested in the agricultural association are currently being collected in preparation for marketing to the Deir ez-Zor gin.
A number of farmers noted the remunerative price set by the government for the cotton crop, which amounts to 2,500 Syrian pounds per kilogram, which is a good price that covers production costs and gives them an acceptable profit margin.
