A sociable lunch for 6.50 euros including coffee and cake: that's what you get at the “lunch table” in Benediktbeuern. Now a restart takes place in two respects.

A sociable lunch for 6.50 euros including coffee and cake: that's what you get at the “lunch table” in Benediktbeuern.

Now a restart takes place in two respects.

Benediktbeuern / Bichl

- Udo Graf is the new project manager for the “lunch” of the neighborhood association “Zammlebn”.

Next week it will start again after a long Corona break - and the seniors are already looking forward to it.

For the first time, an inn from Bichl is among the hosts.

“Lunch” by the “Zammleben” association is a blessing for many seniors

The fact that social life has been idle for the past year and a half has depressed many seniors, especially those who have no family on site.

For them, but also for all locals, the offers such as the “lunch menu” from the “Zammlebn” neighborhood aid association are a blessing.

They can meet three times a month on Thursdays in good company and enjoy inexpensive food, coffee and cake.

After a long Corona break, the “lunch table” will now be held again on Thursday, October 7th. And there is a new person responsible for the project: Udo Graf. A few months ago, the 66-year-old read in the newspaper that they were looking for a volunteer and contacted board member Hubertus Klingebiel. In the summer, Graf has worked into everything and is happy that it can start now. “I really enjoy organizing,” says the 66-year-old, who has lived in Benediktbeuern with his wife since 2010. The couple have two grown sons and four grandchildren. Graf, who worked in wholesale and retail, recently retired. “I would like to get involved in the town,” says the native of Thuringia. He already does this in the background in the ski club and in the development association for elementary and middle school.

Eating together in the Bonhoeffer house in Benediktebüsten

The “lunch menu” is an offer that the neighborhood aid association has been offering for many years.

Now it can come back to life, as usual every first, third and fourth Thursday in the Bonhoeffer House in Benediktbeuern.

Due to the still valid Corona rules, there is currently an upper limit of 24 visitors.

“But if you look at the average number of participants from the past few years, then we can do well with it,” says Graf, who worked out a hygiene concept for the meeting.

The 3G rule applies to participants - guests must be vaccinated, tested or recovered.

In cooperation with regional hosts, a meal is served to the visitors.

It comes monthly alternating either from the Gasthof Post in Benediktbeuern, from the “Klosterbräustüberl” or from the Salesian monastery kitchen.

The “Bavarian Lion” from Bichl is new to the group.

The inn delivers food on October 7th, 21st and 28th.

“I am very happy that all the innkeepers are so open-minded about supporting our project,” thanks Graf.

Participation in the “lunch menu” costs 6.50 euros, including coffee and home-baked cake from the helpers.

Graf is supported by teams that collect the food, set up the room, decorate the table and serve the drinks.

New guests are welcome at the “lunch menu” in Benediktbeuern

In order to be able to replace the “lunch table” to some extent, there was now a “coffee table” in Café Lugauer this summer. “But it doesn't exist anymore,” says Graf. The seniors are very happy that there is now a “lunch table” again: “We are always asked about it.” The elderly would be happy to have a fixed day of the week for a get-together and to meet their friends again. You can always read what to eat four weeks in advance at the Bonhoeffer House and at the guest information desk in Benediktbeuern. It is also available on the association's website.

Citizens from Benediktbeuern, Bichl and Ried are addressed.

If you want to participate, you have to register on the Tuesday before the meeting (phone 08857/3963).

Marie-Luise Reiche takes calls on the club telephone and also makes a note of who needs a driver service.

“New guests are always welcome,” says Graf.
