Sixty years after training as an aircraft mechanic or aircraft electrician, eleven comrades met again.

Fürstenfeldbruck - With joining NATO in 1956 and the establishment of the Bundeswehr, the shortage of skilled workers in technical areas became clear, reports Herbert Schwarz.

So the defense minister set up apprentice workshops with a civil character.

On Fursty, rooms were made available that had been used as an apprentice workshop before 1945.

With the master car mechanic Georg Roth, an experienced specialist was hired as head.

Then there were Michael Münich, who himself had completed an apprenticeship as an aircraft manufacturer during the war, Herbert Oswald and Alfred Kunz, who taught the apprentices planing, turning and milling in the engine room.

The theoretical knowledge was imparted by the teachers Josef Gebert, Leo Zenker and Hannes Eisenschmid.

It started in 1961

On September 1, 1961, the first 22 apprentices started on Fursty. After one year of basic training in manual and mechanical metalworking and processing as well as years of apprenticeship on airplanes and in various workshops, they mastered the examination to become a skilled worker.

According to Schwarz, the fact that eleven alumni are coming to the meeting after 60 years testifies to a great sense of solidarity and an inner relationship with their apprenticeship and the air base. Horst Steinberg organized a devotion for the deceased masters, journeymen and comrades, accompanied by the organist Ingeborg Grüll. Lieutenant Colonel Markus Würmseher gave a tour of the Air Force officers' school and the military history collection. Horst Steinberg showed a photo documentation about apprenticeship, celebrations with the apprentice band, swimming competitions and handball games. In these disciplines, the team from the first year of apprenticeship was unbeaten in comparative competitions with other apprentice workshops. At the cozy get-together, Peter Dengler played with his squeeze, there was singing and narration. There should be the next reunion in three years.
