The Eisbach, the Hofbräuhaus or the Zugspitze are in every travel guide.

But if you want to discover something new in Upper Bavaria, you will find it on a new homepage.

Munich - Why wander into the distance? Goethe once asked.

And he was right, because the good is so close: even if you are not a Zuagroaster, you can still discover a lot of new things in your home country.

That is why the Upper Bavaria Tourist Association has now made it its mission to collect lesser-known places with a lot of potential on one site.

The aim is to show day trippers new and exciting places - and at the same time relieve the traffic on the streets.

Guaranteed not to be overrun: insider tips with a maximum of 30 minutes' walk

Some destinations are so overcrowded that vacationers almost step on the people in front of them while hiking. Especially during the corona pandemic *, Munich residents flocked to the surrounding area. Regions such as the Fünf-Seen-Land, the Tegernseer-Tal * or the Walchensee * were overcrowded, the tin caravan of cars clogged parking lots and streets. The day trippers did not find any real relaxation with this stress. The site

wants to offer a counter-concept precisely here. The Upper Bavarian Tourism Association collects lesser-known places there that have the potential to become the next favorite place and are easily accessible by public transport. This should equalize the flow of visitors and relieve the streets.

The last few meters to the secret places in Upper Bavaria have to be covered on foot. However, the site only collects destinations within a 30-minute walk from the last stop. Well connected, but still so remote that you won't come across half of Munich on the way there. “Everyone only ever has five or six top destinations that they visit again and again,” states Oswald Pehel, Managing Director of Tourismus Oberbayern München eV. “We want to show where you can get to by U- / S-Bahn or other public transport and have great experiences.” At the same time, traveling by public transport is also kind to the environment. The idea should also bring new customers to “public transport”, as Munich's economic advisor Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU)

The excursion destinations are divided into nature experiences, hiking, culture, water experiences and cycling.

Also included is the recommendation to hike from Ammersee to Wörthsee, to visit the European Southern Observatory ESO or the prehistoric museum in Taufkirchen-Vils.

There are suggestions for days with bad weather and excursions that start right outside the front door, such as hiking trails in Munich *.

Also spectacular is the insider tip “Alte Utting”, an old excursion steamer that found a new home on a bridge in Munich and is now used as a bar and event location.

The excursion destinations in Upper Bavaria range from east to west and from north to south - from Traunstein to Landsberg am Lech, from Freising to Mittenwald.

It remains to be seen how many day trippers will be inspired by the tips.

If the offer is still too small for you, you can at least remedy the situation: Users can also recommend their favorite place and send it in directly.

In any case, the Germans' love of travel is unbroken and for many, in times of Instagram and Co., the following applies: the more unknown, the better.

It doesn't have to be a “lost place”, insider tips in Upper Bavaria are a good start.
