At the age of 66, that's when life begins, Udo Jürgens once sang.

Irene Z. can only smile mildly.

At the age of 92 she had her first tattoo - out of love for her granddaughter.

Munich's coolest grandma!

The idea for the tattoo came from Gianna Z. (27), Irene's granddaughter.

"My grandmother and I are of one heart and one soul," says the student teacher from Iffeldorf.

Every week she drives two or three times to Munich to Harras, where Irene lives.

"We do crossword puzzles, go for a walk and at the weekend we go to our favorite Italian restaurant to eat and chat."

Gianna has Italian roots - thanks to Grandpa Edoardo, whom Grandma Irene met and fell in love with as a young woman from Munich.

Gianna: "Eduardo ran a citrus fruit store at the wholesale market, they were happily married until he died in 1996, he was 21 years older than her." Giving up was out of the question for Grandma Irene, she started all over again, the granddaughter remembers.

“At 70, she even went bungee jumping,” says Gianna, who wants to surprise her grandmother with this article in our newspaper.

"Because she is simply the dearest and coolest grandma in the world."

A heart as a tattoo

As a trained hairdresser, Irene, Gianna reports, still pays a lot of attention to her appearance.

"We often have gel fingernails done in cosmetics, my grandma loves pink with glitter."

Now the outward appearance of Grandma Irene will be adorned with a first tattoo.

“We want to have a heart tattooed on the inside of the heel that the other has painted.

So she gets mine, I get hers. ”Was it difficult to persuade the 92-year-old?

“No,” smiles the granddaughter.

“I told her I want something from you with me that will stay forever.

And then you also have something from me. "

Age is not a problem

An affair of the heart, then, that will become firmly established in a tattoo artist in a week and a half.

"I asked if it was still possible at that age, but it was said: 'No problem'." Now grandma and granddaughter are looking forward to their tattoos.

“We just have to practice drawing hearts a little longer.” And who knows what the two of them will come up with next.
