While holidays in Europe are largely possible again, the situation is different for long-haul travel destinations.
One of them has now postponed its opening plans to 2022.
Just recently, the Australian government raised hopes that a vacation could be possible before Christmas 2021.
Now the opening of the borders - at least for tourists - should not take place until next year.
Vacation Down Under 2021?
For the time being, Australia only wants to open borders to certain groups
In Australia, there has long been talk that the borders should not be reopened to tourists until 2022.
Therefore, the news of the tourism minister Dan Tehan surprised in a press conference at the end of September, in which he announced an opening before Christmas.
It is now clear, however, that this advance should only
apply to
qualified immigrants and international students
for the
time being
, as the

reports.
There is currently a lack of both in Australia.

The prerequisite for opening is that
80 percent of the population is
fully vaccinated.
According to the Australian Ministry of Health, the vaccination rate is currently 60.2 percent (as of October 8).
81.5 percent received a first dose of vaccine.
Entrants are also required to have a full vaccination when the borders are opened.

When will international tourists be able to vacation in Australia again?
So far there is no specific date when international vacationers will be allowed back in Australia.
However, the local tourism industry is demanding that the borders be opened to
foreign travelers by March 2022

Prime Minister Scott Morrison
recently
said, according to the
Washington Post
, that the government was working on "a completely quarantine-free trip to certain countries like New Zealand" as soon as it was safe.
It is therefore possible that travel corridors to some countries are first established before all international tourists are allowed to re-enter.
In addition, it is likely that when the border is opened, only vaccinated holidaymakers may initially be allowed.
