The CIA is setting up a special unit to deal with China
This unit is the first to be set up in the US intelligence agency that will focus entirely on the Chinese issue, and is founded against the background of much tension between the two major economies in the world.
Its establishment is one of the organizational changes currently being made by the CIA, which has also decided to close down the units that focused on Iran and North Korea.

Under the leadership of the Biden administration, the CIA is setting up a special unit to target China's activities.
This, at a time of great tension in relations between the two major economies in the world.
Last night, intelligence chief William Burns said the unit would address a "threat from the Chinese government, not the Chinese people."
A senior CIA official compared the new unit to the agency's targeted activities against Russia during the Cold War, as well as its focus on terrorist organizations after 9/11.
To date, no similar unit has been established in the organization, devoted entirely to China.
With the beginning of President Biden's tenure, disputes with Beijing have become deeper, on many issues, including human rights, and the issues of Hong Kong and the South China Sea.
At the same time, only this week senior officials from the two countries are meant to work together to improve communication between them and set a date for a virtual meeting of the presidents by the end of the year.

The new unit is just one of several changes implemented following a broad review the agency launched last year, said a senior member of the organization, who asked to remain anonymous. He said other moves made by the intelligence agency include the merger of the unit dealing with Iran, set up by former President Donald Trump, with a larger unit dealing with the entire Middle East. A change was also made in which the unit that focused on Korea was merged with a larger unit dealing with the East Asia-Pacific.
In addition, Burns said the CIA will establish a new technology center that will focus on issues such as global health, climate change, humanitarian disasters and technology-disrupted disruptions. In doing so, he noted that the agency continues to investigate incidents related to a mysterious disease known as the "Havana Syndrome," which has affected many CIA diplomats and employees.
"Given the tyrannical government model that China is trying to aggressively export, and its rapidly evolving technological capabilities, it is a significant challenge to the United States and the future of democratic values," he said.
