An incident occurred in the South China Sea.
A US nuclear submarine collided with an unknown object.
Several people were injured.
Washington - Relations between China and the US are currently tense.
Just a few days ago, Washington expressed "very worried" about Beijing's recent military actions against Taiwan.
The intrusion of Chinese military aircraft into Taiwanese airspace is "destabilizing, risks miscalculations and undermines peace and stability in the region," said a foreign ministry spokesman last weekend.
Now a new incident is attracting attention.
Incident in the South China Sea: US nuclear submarine collides with object
According to the US Navy, a US nuclear submarine collided with an unknown object underwater. The collision already occurred on Saturday (October 2) in international waters, the Navy said. She did not provide any information on the exact location of the collision. According to US media, however, the incident is said to have occurred in the South China Sea.
The cause of the collision is not yet known.
According to US media reports, a sunken ship or a container could have been the cause of the accident.
On Thursday (local time) the US Pacific Fleet announced that there were no life-threatening injuries on board the "USS Connecticut" in the incident.
In media reports, citing the Navy, it was said that two seafarers had been moderately injured and about nine others had suffered bruises and cuts.
Nuclear submarine "still in a safe and stable state" after collision
The nuclear drive of the "USS Connecticut" was not impaired and is still fully functional, said the Navy.
"The submarine is still in a safe and stable condition," it said.
The extent of the damage to the rest of the Seawolf-class fighter submarine is now being determined.
According to media reports, it will be inspected at the US Navy base in Guam.
The incident is also being investigated.
