SPD health expert Lauterbach warns not to lose sight of the pandemic.

He calls for “more intensive use of the 2G rule” and an early federal-state round.

Berlin - Karl Lauterbach is a doctor and professor and made a name for himself as an expert and admonisher during the corona pandemic.

The health expert spoke

again to

the

Funke media group

about the pandemic

on Saturday

.

In times of coalition negotiations, the politicians should not lose track, demanded Lauterbach with regard to the current exploratory talks on the formation of a government.

From his point of view, stricter 2G rules also make sense, otherwise a “hard winter” is imminent.

But he also had good news.

Lauterbach wants to "use the 2G rule more intensively"

In the pandemic, there would still be many decisions to be made, from the corona rules to booster vaccinations.

Lauterbach therefore thinks it makes sense “that the Prime Ministers meet with the Chancellor again as soon as possible”.

An early federal-state round is necessary in order not to "lose track of things".

A “hard winter” would be imminent if the necessary vaccination quota were not achieved.

In order to increase the incentive to get vaccinated, Lauterbach suggests stricter measures: "We should use the 2G rule more intensively, so only allow vaccinated and convalescents access to restaurants, cinemas or events," explained Lauterbach.

Karl Lauterbach: "Pandemic will be over in spring 2022"

But the SPD politician also has good news.

Unless a more dangerous virus variant occurs, the pandemic will be over in late spring 2022.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) had also expressed himself accordingly in view of the RKI's vaccination quota, which has now been corrected upwards.

Then there could be a decline to normal in spring 2022, said Spahn.

Lauterbach has long been traded as a possible successor to Spahn.

When asked about this, he said: “I do not speculate about ministerial posts - neither publicly nor privately.” However, when asked, he showed interest in the position: “If someone is wanted who has a certain experience in the field, then I would consider it ponder."

A large part of the German citizens would support this: According to a survey by the opinion research institute Civey, 45 percent of those questioned would like a health minister from the SPD.

All other parties received lower approval ratings.

Another survey by

Bild

showed that around a third would like to see the SPD health minister in the next federal government.
