Nearly 50 members of the Shiite minority have been killed in a bloody attack on a mosque in the north of the country.

The Islamic State organization in Horsan province, an affiliate of ISIS in Afghanistan, today (Saturday) took the lead in a bloody attack in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz in which 46 worshipers were killed in a mosque and another 143 were injured.

According to the organization, the attack, which was carried out against members of the Shiite Azeri minority, who was perceived by ISIS as infidels, was carried out by a suicide bomber named "Muhammad al-Uighuri", where a war indicates the terrorist's belonging to the Sunni Uighur minority in Afghanistan.

The Taliban announced this morning that the death toll from the attack had risen to 46.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the terrorist entered the men's prayer area at the Said Abbas mosque in the city of Condoz and detonated the explosive device while the place was standing among worshipers.

"I saw at least forty bodies lying on the ground. There was blood everywhere and almost every family I know lost someone in the attack," Ghasoudin, a local engineer, told the Washington Post.

The Azeri minority in Afghanistan is suffering from ongoing persecution by Sunni extremists, including the Taliban, which now rules the country.

This is the deadliest terrorist attack since the attack on Kabul airport in which 60 people were killed, including 13 American soldiers.

Less than a week ago, the Taliban carried out a similar terrorist attack on a mosque in the city of Kabul, during which two worshipers were killed and several dozen others were shot.

The Islamic State organization in Khursan is one of the biggest threats to the stability of Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

ISIS operatives also targeted the Taliban and killed several of them in ambushes across the country over the past week.

Meanwhile, a senior U.S. Secretary of State told the CNN news network that U.S. diplomats are expected to meet with a Taliban delegation for talks on various issues in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

According to the report, the talks are expected to deal with the evacuation of allies and American visa holders from the territory of Afghanistan as well as the attitude of the new government in Afghanistan towards women.

These are the first talks between members of the organization and the United States since the superpower finally left the country.
