An African wild cat has escaped in the Netherlands and caused a stir in Münsterland Stadtlohn - now it is due to start its journey home this Friday.
The animal comes from the neighboring Dutch municipality of Winterswijk, about 15 kilometers from Stadtlohn, where the owner could be identified.
"The owner sent a photo of his wildcat, and we checked the chip number and the papers," said an employee of the Stadtlohner Ordnungsamt on Friday of the German press agency.
Stadtlohn - As soon as possible, the animal will be handed over to the Dutch owner, from whom the serval had escaped about two weeks ago.
After the wildcat was caught on Wednesday, it was taken to a rescue center for such exotic species in Witten in the Ruhr area.
Residents discovered the exotic animal in their garden in Stadtlohn in western Münsterland, mistakenly mistook it for a leopard and called the police.
It was only when it raised its characteristic ears when the police officers arrived that it was identified as a serval.
A specialist finally succeeded in luring the wildcat into a net.
