To come to terms with the flood disaster with 49 deaths, the committee should summon weather expert Jörg Kachelmann, among others, at the request of the opposition groups SPD and Greens. In addition, the outgoing Prime Minister Armin Laschet, his designated successor Hendrik Wüst, Interior Minister Herbert Reul (all CDU) and State Chancellor Nathanael Liminski and other members of the government are to be questioned as witnesses.

In the first meeting, procedural and evidence resolutions were passed in order to request the necessary files, said the committee chairman Ralf Witzel (FDP).
