For the first time, the Saxony SPD is led by a dual leadership.
At a party congress in Neukieritzsch near Leipzig on Saturday, the delegates elected member of the Bundestag Kathrin Michel and Secretary General Henning Homann as the new leadership duo.
They succeed Martin Dulig, who had retired after twelve years at the party leadership.
The entire state board should also be re-elected on Saturday.
Neukieritzsch - Michel received 93 percent approval, their co-chairman Homann was elected with 90 percent.
132 delegates had cast their votes.
There were no other candidates.

Two days after the clear election victory of the Social Democrats, the 52-year-old was confirmed in office with a large majority at a first meeting of the parliamentary group on Tuesday.

The Saxon SPD has felt a tailwind since the positive outcome of the federal election.
With 19.3 percent of the second vote, the Social Democrats in Saxony were behind the AfD (24.6) but still ahead of the CDU (17.2).
The prospect is now clearly the Saxon state election in 2024, said the new party leader Michel.
A “strong double-digit result” is the goal.
In the previous state election in 2019, the SPD had historically bad done with 7.7 percent.
Nevertheless, she belongs to the black-green-red government coalition.
