Not only the route has changed, boss Gernot Weigl even has a delicacy in his luggage.

The run invasion begins again! The 35th Generali Munich * Marathon will take place on Sunday. The anticipation for the major event is huge, as it had to be canceled in 2020. "It is a liberating feeling to finally align the race again," says managing director Gernot Weigl. It wasn't until August that it received final approval. 11,000 runners have now registered for the marathon, half marathon and 10 km run.

The Schwabing district in particular will be put into a state of emergency on Sunday.

The start and finish is in the Olympic Stadium, this time a 21-kilometer loop through Schwabing * and the English Garden will be run twice for the marathon.

From the Olympic Park it goes over the Ackermannbogen and Elisabethstraße to the Siegestor.

This is followed by a long lap through the English Garden before the participants run back to the Olympic Park on the same route.

Munich Marathon: 100 police officers on duty - 5,000 spectators expected

The police cordon off the route between the start at 9 a.m. and the finish line for the last runner at around 3:30 p.m.

"All road users can be impaired," warn the authorities.

In particular, the north-south connection within the middle ring is affected.

100 police officers are on duty.

Organizer Weigl expects around 5,000 spectators.

Whoever wants to cheer needs a ticket and is only allowed to stay in the three spectator islands (Siegestor, Franz-Joseph-Straße and Olympiastadion).

The 3G rule applies there.

Spontaneous runners can register until 6 p.m. on Saturday.

As a special treat, the German championship is integrated into the run this time.

“That adds value to the event,” Weigl says happily.
