Nuremberg - Now it's getting exciting: Who will slip into the traditional garb of the Nuremberg Christ Child this year and next?

29 girls applied for the role - significantly more than in the three previous elections, said a spokeswoman for the city of Nuremberg *.

The preselection * has been made, the race for the Advent office starts on October 16.

However, only twelve of the 29 applicants take part.

According to the spokeswoman, ten applications were invalid.

Either because the girls did not live in Nuremberg, their age did not meet the requirements, or the application was sent too late.

Nuremberg Christkind will be elected on November 3rd - citizens will soon be able to vote

From October 16, all Nuremberg residents will have the chance to vote for their personal favorite. Either on the Internet via the website of the city of Nuremberg or by letter. The jury will make its decision on November 3rd. From the six applicants who received the most votes, the committee will select the Christ Child for 2021 and 2022 from representatives of the Nuremberg State Theater, the Market Office, the Congress and Tourism Center and the Office for Communication and City Marketing.

The city of Nuremberg has been electing a new Christ Child every two years since 1969.

Before that, actresses slipped into the angelic role with a blonde curly wig, golden crown and shimmering wings.

Traditionally, the chosen Christkind then opens the world-famous Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, which attracts thousands of visitors to the city center every year.

Last year, however, the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt had to be canceled due to Corona *.

Benigna Munsi *, the Nuremberg Chriskind of 2019 and 2020, could only carry out her Advent office digitally.

The city is planning to distribute the various stalls in several places in the city center in order to avoid a dense crowd in the main square.
