Problems with the planning office during the renovation of the Regensburg Kultbad have already delayed the planned reopening by a year.

Now it is also clear: the whole thing will be more expensive.

Regensburg - The problems with the planning for the renovation of the Wöhrdbad in Regensburg * now also have financial consequences.

A spokesman for the Regensburg municipal utility confirms that the initially estimated costs will rise to at least 7.5 million euros.

Originally, an investment volume of "around six million euros" was communicated.

At the end of August, the municipal utility was still assuming that it would be able to meet the originally planned budget.

Planning disaster at Wöhrdbad: Problems only admitted later

As already reported at the time, there was a rift in mid-July between the Austrian architectural office, which was entrusted with the renovation planning, and the Regensburg municipal utility.

Those involved shift responsibility on to one another.

The architecture office says that the cooperation was terminated due to non-payment, the municipal utility claims “poor performance”, for which money was withheld.

Insiders spoke to our editorial team about a “complete disaster” on the Wöhrdbad construction site.

“Some lines were completely forgotten.

The concrete has to be torn open again. "Even a demolition and a new building were briefly considered," because it might be cheaper than fixing the errors. "

Such statements are not officially confirmed, but it was already clear at the time: The reopening of the popular Regensburg cult baths, originally planned for last summer, would be postponed by a year - to summer 2022. Only afterwards did the Stadtwerk admit that the problems with the architecture office were were responsible for it.

Wöhrdbad renovation is becoming more expensive: "The calculation may not have been so good."

The good news: At least the deadline for reopening next summer is what the municipal utility wants to keep.

"Despite the extensive reworking, there is no question that the renovated Wöhrdbad will be able to open at the start of the outdoor pool season in the coming year," said a spokesman.

On the other hand, it is still unclear how high the cost increases that the planning problems entail will actually be in the end.

Manfred Koller, managing director of Stadtwerk GmbH, admitted to the city council at the end of September that the renovation would be more expensive.

But without giving any numbers.

"Perhaps the calculation was not so good," Koller's justification.

The Wöhrdbad is an old building.

“You have a bit of difficulty here to really determine everything.

The costs can then also rise. "

Problems with Wöhrdbad renovation: "A series of reworking" is necessary

A spokesperson will be more specific at the request of our editorial team.

He justifies the increase on the one hand with increased material prices, but on the other hand also with the "partly inadequate planning" of the Tyrolean architecture office.

You have to "do a number of rework that was not included in the original plan".

At the moment one goes from an "approx.

ten percent increase in costs ”compared to the original estimate.

This was always given to the public as "around six million euros", in October 2020 the city council spoke more specifically of 6.341 million euros and currently the municipal utility puts the "originally planned budget" at 6.75 million euros.

This sum will now increase to just under 7.5 million euros.

At least.

"From today's point of view (...) an exact number cannot yet be conclusively stated," said the municipal utility.
