A car rolled over on Autobahn 43 near Sprockhövel (Ennepe-Ruhr district), flew over the guardrail and got stuck on the roof.
The driver was seriously injured and trapped in his car and had to be rescued, the fire brigade said on Saturday.
Due to the long approach time of the requested rescue helicopter, the injured person was taken to a special clinic by ambulance on Friday evening.
Sprockhövel - In the course of the accident, there were several rear-end collisions, said a police spokesman.
The A43 was temporarily closed.
Further details were not known at first.
