Pfaffenhofen - The stork is welcome in the Pfaffenhofen community area.
That was the unanimous tenor of all municipal council members at the most recent meeting in the Unterumbach community center.
Christine Kalmbach, head of the children's homes in the community, had proposed to Mayor Helmut Zech to install stork nests in the community area.

The project immediately met with open ears at Zech, and so the topic of the stork was put on the agenda of the municipal council as item 6.
Everyone immediately agreed that the wading birds should definitely have a home in the community.
It was finally decided that the company wanted to start with two nests, which should be free-standing on a mast and not on roofs.
But where should these be set up?
Since the stork likes to live close to people and the administration also wants the citizens to be able to observe the storks well, the committee agreed after a brief exchange of ideas on two locations: on the one hand at the sports grounds of VfL Egenburg along the new adventure trail and on the other hand in the Umbachtal.
Local councilor and Unterumbach resident Marianne Steinhart wants the stork's nest near the church in Unterumbach.
Experts should now examine where the new stork families can best find shelter.
Because Mayor Helmut Zech declared that the stork cannot live everywhere.
He seeks closeness to people and, as an omnivore, needs a corresponding food supply.
In addition, the land on which the nests are to be installed must absolutely belong to the municipality.
Councilor Georg Kalmbach would like a third location - in Ebersried.
This should be kept in mind.
The stork is currently a big issue in the Dachau district.
In the most recent sightings, 44 storks were counted in the Glonn Valley.
In all of Bavaria the number of breeding pairs was 800 in August. According to the Bird Protection Association, this is a new record.
