Memmingen - Since December 2020 there has been the minibus line 5, which connects the Buxach-Hart district via ZOB - Neubruch - Dickenreishausen and an on-call bus. The Buxach-Hart Citizens Committee exchanged experiences with the acceptance of the new line with Mayor Manfred Schilder, Mayor Dr. Hans-Martin Steiger and bus operator Josef Brandner at an on-site visit at the new demand stops in Hart.

On line 5, around 86,000 timetable kilometers have been driven on 291 days of use since December 2020, with a total of 1750 passengers being carried, said Josef Brandner.

The lockdown in winter and spring had a generally negative effect on the use of local public transport.

However, the number of passengers rose continuously over the year.

However, flexible forms of operation in rural areas, such as the Flexibus model, would generally prove to be more effective.

With this public transport concept, the Flexibus picks up passengers at a nearby stop and takes them to the stop of their choice within predefined operating zones and, if desired, back home.

Offer still exists

Since the minibus route 5 was continuously better accepted despite the unfavorable framework conditions for local public transport, the offer will also be continued in the coming timetable year, assured Lord Mayor Schilder.

"We have to look for solutions that are as flexible as possible in the long term in order to meet the needs of the passengers," he emphasized.

With the amendment of the Passenger Transport Act since this year, the legislator has created the framework for the comprehensive implementation of flexible forms of operation, each of which is to be seen as a supplement to the scheduled public transport network, informed Sabine Ganser, head of the school administration office, which also organizes public transport in Memmingen .

Great flexibility is important

Jürgen Franz, Chairman of the Buxach-Hart Citizens' Committee, welcomed this and emphasized that the most direct possible connection to the city center as well as an attractive price structure with a high degree of flexibility were fundamental for the acceptance of Line 5.

With the expiry of the urban transport contract on December 31, 2022, the city council decided to implement further operating stages with more frequent intervals and course optimization.

Since December 2020, passengers in the Memmingen public transport system have benefited from improvements in operating level 1 in the city bus - regional bus harmonization concept.

The regional bus routes are better coordinated with city traffic, so that bus traffic in the core city runs every 30 minutes and in the districts every 60 minutes on weekdays.

"We are currently developing a mobility concept in which mobility is to be rethought," explained Mayor Dr.

Steiger in his role as head of the steering group for the “Mobility Model Region”.

Rethink mobility

On Tuesday, November 2nd, starting at 6 p.m., a moderated workshop for citizens will take place in the town hall, at which visions for a climate-friendly mobility of the future can be introduced.
