The alleged perpetrator had left messages in direct connection with the crimes, two of which have not yet been deciphered.

But now an investigation team is certain: they want to have solved the riddle of the notorious serial killer.

The Zodiac killer, previously unknown according to official FBI information, had terrified California and the USA for months more than 50 years ago. The FBI has so far counted five deaths and two survivors among the victims of the serial killer, the Zodiac killer who had committed the acts mostly at night. The serial offender often lurked in places that young lovers had chosen for undisturbed moments. After his brutal deeds, the Zodiac killer sent letters and messages to local newspapers, but not all messages have been deciphered to this day. The killer claims to have been in one of the messages for a total of 37 murders.

And it is precisely this letter that an investigation team claims to have cracked.

The group called "The Case Breakers" is made up of retired FBI officials, former investigators and prosecutors.

On Wednesday, the investigation team announced their supposed success: the Zodiac killer is said to be former soldier Gary Francis Poste.

The former investigators had been brought into the name of the former soldier by a relative who had also suspected Gary Francis Poste of the pseudonym of the Zodiac killer.

She said she was threatened by Poste.

While the investigation team is certain of their success, FBI agents still doubt the evidence presented.
