A transgender woman completed a minyan on the first day of Sukkot at a synagogue in Liverpool where men were missing.
The British Telegraph reported on the front page of the newspaper over the weekend that despite the fact that it was a woman, those present decided that it was halakhically correct because she was a man in the past.
Recently, no prayers have been held at the Princes Road Synagogue because it has been difficult to organize a quorum of ten men, which is necessary for the prayer to take place.
The same thing happened on the first holiday of Sukkot, but suddenly those present found a unique solution.
The front page of the Jewish Telegraph,
The chief gabay, Saul Marks, told the Jewish Telegraph that a conversation had developed between the woman and those present.
"They decided among themselves that it would be acceptable for me to count it as part of a quorum," he said.
The headline of the newspaper, where the article was published, featured attendees who said "If you were born a man - you are still a man."
The woman, who usually sits with the help of the women and is very supportive of the synagogue, is very popular in the community, Marx said.
"She had many supporters in Liverpool on her challenging journey," he said.
