Erfurt / Mannheim - Mannheim symbolically took over the flag for the next Federal Horticultural Show (Buga) on Sunday in Erfurt.
The city of squares will host the show from April 14th to October 8th, 2023.
Mannheim's Lord Mayor Peter Kurz (SPD) said at the handover ceremony: “We are delighted to be able to take over this baton.” There are similarities between the concepts in Erfurt and Mannheim, such as the conversion of military areas into civilian use.
The Buga 23 will send out a signal that sustainability means more instead of less quality of life.
The focus is on climate change, adaptation to its consequences, food security and energy supply.

With over 100 hectares, it is one of the largest exhibitions of flowers and gardens to date.
Buga 23 takes place on two very different sites.
While the Luisenpark was modeled on English landscape parks, the Spinelli site is characterized by its former military use.
The Mannheim delegation also included comedian Bülent Ceylan - a native of Mannheim - and jazz trumpeter Thomas Siffling with his band.
