As the search continues for Brian Laundrie in a Florida nature preserve, police said Friday they have yet to find any physical evidence of Laundrie within the extensive wilderness area.

Laundrie, whose fiancee Gabby Petito was found dead in Wyoming nearly three weeks ago, has been the focus of an intense search on the Carlton Reservation near his family's North Port home, after his parents told police that I was planning to go hiking there.

North Port Police spokesman Josh Taylor told CNN's Randi Kaye that while nothing related to Laundrie has been found within the reservation, their efforts will continue there until they have better information.

Port police confirmed this week that an abandoned vehicle notice was posted on Sept. 14 on a Ford Mustang belonging to the Laundrie family located outside a park that serves as an entrance to the reserve.

The parents, Chris and Roberta, went to the park that day looking for their son and saw the summons, according to Laundrie's family attorney, Steve Bertolino, a day after they say Laundrie told them he was heading to the reservation. .

His parents drove the vehicle home on September 15.

The search has been prompted entirely by information from Laundrie's parents, Taylor told CNN, and while the police department has received numerous tips from the public, police say none have worked so far.

Laundrie has not been charged in Petito's death, but is the subject of a federal arrest warrant for unauthorized use of someone else's debit card in the days after he last spoke to his family.

Petito, whose body was discovered on September 19, was reported missing eight days earlier by her family who had not heard from her since late August.

When police, as part of the investigation into Petito's disappearance, went to the Laundrie family home on the night of September 11, he was not seen and there was no opportunity to speak to him, Taylor told CNN.

While Laundrie was not wanted for arrest at the time, he was being watched by police - in the best way that authorities could legally do - prior to his disappearance, Taylor told CNN, and authorities say they never spoke to Laundrie before it disappeared.

On September 17, when police spoke with Laundrie's parents after they reported her missing, they refused to address Petito's disappearance or answer any questions about her, which police described as "strange," Taylor said.

Laundrie's parents, who had their attorney on speaker, only spoke about their missing son.

Laundrie and Petito had ventured on a summer road trip through the western national parks, but Petito was last seen in late August at a Wyoming restaurant and Laundrie returned home to Florida on the 1st. of September.

Almost a week after Laundrie returned, he and his parents went camping for a brief stay at a site about 120 miles from their home, attorney Bertolino told CNN.

In late September, Laundrie's parents issued a statement through their attorney, saying, "Chris and Roberta Laundrie do not know where Brian is. They are concerned about Brian and hope the FBI can locate him. Speculation by the public and From some in the press that the parents helped Brian get out of the family home or avoid arrest because of an arrest warrant that was issued after Brian had been missing for several days is simply wrong. Chris Laundrie was seen entering the Carlton Reservation Thursday morning after law enforcement asked him to accompany them on their search, according to Bertolino.

"Chris was asked to point out any favorite trails or spots Brian may have used on the preserve," the attorney stated.

Although the family provided the information that they knew before, "now it is thought that the assistance in the place can be better," he said.

"The reservation has been closed to the public and the Laundries, but the parents have cooperated since the search began," Bertolino said.

"There were no discoveries, but the effort was useful for everyone," he said.

On Thursday, police denied that a camp on the reservation had been found during previous search efforts.

That confirmation came after a source close to the Laundrie family told CNN that investigators informed them that police had made a discovery.

The source insisted Thursday that the Laundrie family had been told a camp had been found.

  • Police say no camps were found in the nature reserve during the search for Brian Laundrie

"Is it possible they thought there might be a campground or something that they could have seen from the air, but when they hit the ground it wasn't what it turned out to be? Sure, I think it's a possibility," Taylor said.

"Bottom line, the investigators tell me that no camp was found out there."

As the search continues, Laundrie's parents believe he is still on the reservation, Bertolino said, and as a result, any public calls for him to surrender to authorities would not reach him.

"In summary, the parents believe that Brian was and is still on the reservation, so there was no reason to issue an allegation in the media that he does not have access to," the attorney said.

CNN's Randi Kaye, Leyla Santiago, Sara Weisfeldt, Melissa Alonso, Gregory Lemos, Chris Cuomo, Jon Passantino, Dakin Andone, Christina Maxouris, Taylor Romine, Joe Sutton, Susan Chun and Anne Clifford contributed to this report.
