Gmund - The station area in Gmund is to be redesigned.

The municipal council was rather cautious about the first drafts for the bus station.

The redesign of the station area and Wiesseer Straße is a forward-looking topic for Gmund.

As a first step, the northernmost municipality on the Tegernsee is planning a new central bus station (ZOB).

For its roofing, three preliminary drafts have now been presented to the municipal council.

The ultra-modern variants, presented by architect Rainer Löhle, provided material for intensive discussion in the committee.

As is well known, the previous bus turning point east of the station building will be replaced by a central bus station in the west. Up to six buses should be able to arrive and depart there at the same time. In addition, they want to create a canopy for the passengers. The fact that there is only little space available - three meters wide for a bus platform that can be covered over 60 meters - makes things difficult, said Löhle. His Augsburg office, Löhle Neubauer Architects, was commissioned to create the designs. However, the three variants found only partial approval in the local council.

The planners' idea was to contrast the heritage-protected train station with something contemporary.

However, old and new should not be in competition with one another.

According to Löhle, it is about integration into the urban context.

Careful handling of the historical environment plays an important role.

Other aspects are the inclusion of the unique panorama with mountain and lake scenery as well as the creation of an identity-creating effect.

The following suggestions were presented on the evening of the meeting, which was also attended by district architect Christian Boiger:

  • A continuous, elongated roof, the underside of which should reflect the Tegernsee as variant 1

  • several small roofs that act like added umbrellas as variant 2 as well

  • a flat roof with an inverted landscape image on its mirrored underside, as variant 3.

  • When asked to speak, there was no clear tendency to identify which of the three drafts could be considered.

The umbrella variant was most likely found to be acceptable - but without any gaps between the individual roof elements.

In addition, the majority of the councils wanted a construction in which the topic of wood also played a part.

Overall, the roofing should not look too massive, instead it should appear rather simple and should be recessed in the context of the station building.

Architect Rainer Löhle and his team are now to develop further designs for the central bus station, which will then be presented at one of the next meetings of the municipal council.
