"It is important that the regulation only applies to quarantine measures that were issued from October 11th," explained the Ministry of Health in response to a dpa request.
"This means that the regulation does not yet apply to quarantines that are before that." The changes are justified by the fact that a large part of the population has already been vaccinated against Corona and vaccination offers are being made across the board.
Unvaccinated people usually need rapid tests when accessing restaurants or events.
It remains to be seen how expensive corona self-payer tests are.
There are no federal or state price specifications for this.
The North Rhine Pharmacists' Association assumes around 20 euros per test.
In addition to the pharmacies, there are numerous other test providers.
So far, employers have continued to pay their wages in the case of quarantine and can then have the amount reimbursed by the municipal landscape associations in North Rhine-Westphalia.
According to the NRW Ministry of Health, around 120 million euros have so far been spent on compensation for loss of earnings in connection with an officially ordered quarantine.
"Anyone who takes the liberty not to be vaccinated, although there is nothing medically against it, is responsible for the consequences of their decision - not the employer, not the community of solidarity," Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) recently asked the wage allowances explained.
As with the rapid tests, there are exceptional cases of compensation for loss of earnings in the event of quarantine, in which the state continues to pay.
Laumann had explained that anyone who cannot be vaccinated because of health problems will continue to receive support.
Those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated who would have to be in quarantine due to so-called breakthroughs in vaccination or new illnesses would also have a claim for compensation.
