Brandenburg's Minister of Equality, Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens), sees some catching up to do in terms of equal rights for girls.
"Girls still have to struggle with prejudices and are structurally disadvantaged compared to boys," said Nonnemacher on Sunday on the occasion of International Girls' Day on Monday.
Potsdam - International Girls' Day was launched by the United Nations in 2011.
This is to draw attention to the worldwide discrimination and oppression of girls.
Girls are successful in the education system, but would later remain in narrow fields of career choice, with consequences for wages and pensions, criticized state equal opportunities officer Manuela Dörnenburg.
Efforts must be made early on not to restrict girls to outdated roles, but rather to show them all the possibilities.
