Thousands of students can go back to the lecture hall on Monday.

Because then the lectures in the new winter semester start with 3G controls and a lot of presence.

But before that, the "first-time students" are welcomed - for example in the stadium.

Düsseldorf - For around 765,000 students in North Rhine-Westphalia, the lectures start today in the new winter semester - for some of them not in the lecture hall, but in the stadium.

The universities in Dortmund, Bielefeld and Cologne want to welcome their freshmen there on Monday.

In the cathedral city, up to 25,000 people can follow a program in the Rhein-Energie-Stadion with the brass bands Moop Mama and compressed air, among others.

University rectors: 3G rule can hardly be implemented at NRW universities

Before the start of the winter semester in North Rhine-Westphalia, the university rectors in the state criticized the 3G rule at universities.

"The obligation cannot be met in terms of personnel and logistics for all event sizes," said Lambert T. Koch, chairman of the state rectors' conference of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rheinische Post (Monday).

Unlike in school, students changed study groups several times a day, which is why they would have to be checked more often to see whether they have been tested, vaccinated or recovered.

In the past three semesters, the universities had to experiment a lot because of the corona pandemic in order to offer a good program.

This seems to be a little easier in the new winter semester.

Students in classroom teaching again: desire for "normality"

After three semesters, mainly with online events, the students go back to the universities in the winter semester - at least that's the plan of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

In addition, Lord Mayor Henriette Reker (non-party) welcomes the “Erstis”.

A university spokesman said that on Thursday the free ticket retrieval had already cracked the 10,000 mark.

The event is also aimed at all other students who have experienced the university largely digitally under Corona conditions in the last semesters.

After three pandemic semesters, the new academic year begins with presence and 3G controls.

Only very large lectures should be offered online.

For teaching in lecture halls and seminar rooms, students must show that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested.

The universities must create access concepts and check the 3G at least on a random basis - for example with forgery-proof vignettes on the university ID, as in Düsseldorf, Münster and Bochum.

Some universities rely on apps, ribbons or controls on the university buildings.

According to initial estimates by the universities, the number of students in the winter semester 2021/2022 is roughly at the level of the previous year.
