Trappes: we vote this Sunday for a new first round of municipal elections

After more than a year of legal proceedings, the first round of the municipal election is held in Trappes this Sunday.

The Trappists are invited to elect their new mayor between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the various polling stations in the city.

The former Communist elected official obtained 18.4% of the vote in the second round of the 2014 municipal elections.

Finally, Patrick Planque is a Lutte Ouvrière candidate.

A railway maintenance worker, he was already a candidate in 2020 and obtained 3.02% of the vote in the first round.

The 2020 election annulled by the Council of State

As a reminder, the 2020 election, won by mayor Ali Rabeh (Generation. S), was canceled by the Council of State in a decision of August 18.

According to the judges, Ali Rabeh had “promoted his candidacy” during the three months which elapsed between the first and the second round.

With his association Cœur de Trappes, the candidate carried out charitable actions in the midst of a health crisis.

15,000 masks as well as food packages and educational kits for children were distributed.

Some of these masks were accompanied by a photo of Ali Rabeh.

However, these actions were not declared in the candidate's campaign accounts.

This decision of the Council of State ended more than a year of legal battles between Ali Rabeh and Othman Nasrou.

A few weeks after the election of Ali Rabeh, Othman Nasrou had filed an appeal before the administrative court.

He canceled the municipal election and declared Ali Rabeh ineligible.

The latter then appealed to the Council of State.

On ineligibility, the judges of the Council of State did not follow the administrative court.

In the 2020 municipal elections, the results were very close between the two candidates, Ali Rabeh had only 161 votes more than Othman Nasrou.

While on the 32,000 inhabitants, 14,118 people are registered on the electoral rolls of the city is 641 more than last year, the big question of this ballot is the abstention.

In 2020, 61.7% of voters did not come to the second round.
