There are now significantly fewer tourists in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Nevertheless, there were several serious accidents over the weekend.

Two men died and several people were seriously injured.

Sarnow / Neustadt-Glewe / Pasewalk - In a series of traffic accidents in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania over the weekend, two cyclists were killed and at least 14 people were injured, some seriously.

As police spokesman explained on Sunday in Neubrandenburg and Rostock, in all cases a lack of attention and right of way violations were the causes of the accidents.

In Neustadt-Glewe (Ludwigslust-Parchim), for example, a 79-year-old cyclist died after a collision with a car. According to previous investigations, the 56-year-old driver probably overlooked the pensioner when he turned on Saturday. The senior suffered severe head injuries from which he later died in a clinic, it said on Sunday.

Another cyclist died on Saturday evening on federal highway 197 near Sarnow between Anklam and Friedland.

As the police spokesman said, an 84-year-old driver saw the 48-year-old cyclist and his 44-year-old brother too late in the dark and collided with both of them.

The cyclists are said to have been drunk and without lights in the same direction of travel.

The 44-year-old was seriously injured.

The senior at the car tax is now being investigated on suspicion of negligent homicide.

In addition, two 18 and 20 year old cyclists collided with each other in Neubrandenburg.

The 18-year-old was on the wrong side of the road in the dark.

The 20-year-old came to a clinic with serious injuries.

In addition, more than ten people were injured in two rear-end collisions in Pasewalk (Vorpommern-Greifswald) and Neddemin (Mecklenburg Lake District).

In Pasewalk, an 86-year-old driver hit a car parked in front of him on Sunday and pushed it onto another car.

The 86-year-old, his 81-year-old passenger and another driver were seriously injured.

Other car occupants suffered minor injuries.
