After a corona-related minimal version in 2020, significantly more people came to the traditional Weimar onion market again this year.
Since Friday around 150,000 visitors have strolled through the market area, as the city administration announced on Sunday.
That was twice as many as last autumn, when the market area was significantly reduced.
Weimar - The 368th year of Thuringia's most popular national festival, however, did not come close to the response to the corona pandemic.
This year 160 traders had set up their stands, including 50 vegetable farmers from Heldrungen in northern Thuringia, who traditionally supply the market.
Thanks to a good onion harvest, they had brought up significantly more of the popular hand-wound onion braids this time than in previous years.
There were no bottlenecks, the tear-inducing tubers were partly of considerable size.
