Jörg Meuthen withdraws from the management floor of the AfD.
The previous co-chairman does not want to run again at the party conference in December.
The 60-year-old informed the party members about his resignation in a collective email; the letter is available to SPIEGEL.
The "Welt" and t-online had previously reported on the mail.
He did not make the decision easy for himself and made it after "many intensive discussions," especially with his family.
Meuthen does not give exact reasons for his withdrawal.
He writes of an "incredibly demanding" time as a federal spokesman, which was marked by "some hardships and disappointments", but also by "a lot of good experiences".
