Poing - The shock is followed by a feeling of joy and gratitude that still linger.

Joy and gratitude for the many offers of support that she received after our newspaper reported on the vandalism in the school garden.

Verena Heigl, principal of the elementary school on Karl-Sittler-Straße in Poing-Süd, told our editorial team on Monday: "The Böck nursery supplied us with lamb's lettuce seedlings as winter vegetables and rosemary."

Dominik Junga, who heads the “School Garden” project for all-day classes, has already replanted the beds together with schoolchildren, reports Heigl. She also lists: Mayor Thomas Stark offered his support, as did the BayWa Foundation and the Zehmerhof in Gelting. And more. “My phone was no longer silent,” says the Rector and says: “A big thank you to everyone.” The children in particular are particularly happy about the support and it is nice for them and all the teachers to see “that everyone stick together ”, says Heigl. "After the rain comes the sun."

A week ago, teachers discovered that previously unknown perpetrators had ravaged the three raised beds and the small greenhouse.

Plants and vegetables had been torn out, watering cans thrown around.

According to the Rector, the period of the offense can be precisely limited: Monday, October 4th, between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.

With the energetic and financial support of the Böck nursery from Neufarn, the raised beds and the greenhouse were laid out as a school garden in spring.

The all-day classes take care of plants and vegetables in their own project, which are processed into food in the school kitchen under the direction of Dominik Junga.

"The school garden is about sustainability," explains Heigl.

When the garden was destroyed a week ago, the headmistress described the pupils' reaction as follows: “The children couldn't believe their eyes.

They all made this project a matter close to their hearts with love in the Corona period. "

Verena Heigl reports that no relevant information about the perpetrators has been received so far.

Support offers and encouragement calls, however, many.
