The Ahrweiler district received 67.3 million euros from the state's development aid fund to cope with the vast amounts of rubble and rubbish after the flood disaster.

When handing over the decision, Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) declared on Monday in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler: "Removing the rubbish from public areas was, is and remains a Herculean task."

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler - The tidal wave on the night of July 14th to 15th took away buildings, cars, trees, components, oil tanks and loads of household items.

Mud and oil also had to be disposed of.

The district is now reimbursed for the costs of demolition, clearing up and disposal work on public roads, paths and squares as well as in bodies of water.

The district administration has registered a total of 74.7 million euros for this.

7.4 million euros have already been reimbursed from the emergency aid program for municipalities.
