From October 11, 2021 there will be a big change in the corona tests.

Except for a small group, these will no longer be free in Germany from next week.

Berlin - They have been determining public life in the Federal Republic of Germany since spring: The free corona tests in test centers, pharmacies and in public places.

Without a negative decision, nothing would work in many places, whether in the beer garden, at the hairdresser's or in the cinema.

As the vaccination campaign progresses, much of these tests are now obsolete.

They will therefore be charged from Monday.

No more free corona tests: Boost for the vaccination campaign?

October 11th is likely to be a decisive day in the fight against the coronavirus.

From now on, citizens have to dig into their pockets everywhere if they want to test themselves for Covid-19.

The prices are not known and may be determined by the providers themselves.

However, the procedure should continue to be cheaper than the expensive PCR tests.

The omission of the tests should also give a final and at the same time decisive momentum to the current vaccination campaign.

A vaccination pays off significantly more financially than a regular visit to the local test center.

Free corona test: who doesn't have to pay money?

Some population groups are excluded from the new regulation and can also be tested free of charge after October 11th:

  • Children and adolescents up to 12 years of age (for 13 to 17 year olds, however, only until December 31st)

  • Pregnant women (also only until December 31st)

  • People who need a test to end a quarantine due to a corona infection

  • People for whom there is no general vaccination recommendation or who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons

  • Students who received a vaccination with vaccines other than those approved in Germany (only until December 31st)

  • People who are participating in clinical studies on the effectiveness of corona vaccines at the time of testing or who have participated in such studies in the last three months prior to testing

Test centers: availability could be a problem

In addition to the new costs that have to be raised for an antigen test, the availability of the method could also become problematic.

There should still be enough test facilities in the metropolitan areas, but it could be much more difficult in rural regions.
