The fantastic autumn weather attracted many Munich residents to the mountains on Sunday.
With the train at 7.13 a.m. from the main station you reach Mittenwald shortly before 9 a.m.
The town in the valley was still under a thick blanket of fog.
After less than an hour ascent, the fog cleared and a bright blue sky greeted the hikers.
All but one of the managed alpine pastures were open on the way.
On the last, again near Mittenwald, there was a delicious cream puff.
It was so big, however, that a whole one per person would have endangered the rest of the descent to the station.
The Werdenfelsbahn was full (
but an elderly gentleman said he was allowed to occupy four places with himself and his luggage
) and drove into Munich Central Station on time.
