The wedding of the son of the former ambassador, Huda Nono, took place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Manama • Rabbi Eli Abadi: "A more significant wedding than usual"

For the first time in 52 years, as well as one year after the establishment of the Abrahamic Agreements, a Jewish wedding was held in Bahrain yesterday (Sunday).

The exciting event took place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the capital Manama, and was organized by the Association of Jewish Communities in the Gulf (AGJC).

Beyond that, this is the first strictly trained wedding in the history of the kingdom - and under the supervision of the Orthodox Union.

The groom at the event was the son of one of the senior members of the Jewish community in Bahrain and the former ambassador of the kingdom to Washington, Huda Nono.

"I know that a child's wedding is significant to any mother," Nono said, "but this wedding was indeed like that! It's hard for me to describe how significant it is to me."

Rabbi Eli Abadi added that "all weddings are exciting because we are celebrating the creation of a new Jewish family."

He said, "This wedding is even more significant because it is the first wedding in more than half a century in Bahrain. I was privileged to conduct the wedding. It is so satisfying for me to see a resurgence of Jewish life in the area and to help Jewish families in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). ).

The Jewish community in Bahrain is exceptional in terms of the western Persian Gulf.

The Jewish roots of the community began as early as the 19th century, and even today - it is the only country in the region with an active synagogue.

"This event is very important to our family and the Jewish community in Bahrain," said Ibrahim Daoud Nono, president of the Association of Jewish Communities in the Gulf.

"The atmosphere was euphoric. It is also symbolic because it is an opportunity to increase the scope of Jewish life in the area."
