The lectures for around 765,000 students in North Rhine-Westphalia began in partially completely full lecture halls and with 3G controls. Most of the events at the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia will take place in attendance again this winter semester.

Düsseldorf - For this, students would have to show that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested.

At a business administration lecture in Münster, around 800 students sat next to each other with mouth and nose protection in the lecture hall. "All the places were as good as occupied," reported the university. A badge on the university ID card shows that you have been vaccinated or have recovered. According to the university, non-immunized participants need a current negative test. The 3G controls have therefore run smoothly so far.

“Finally a well-filled lecture hall again!” Tweeted the University of Düsseldorf on Monday.

Around 600 people followed the first-semester welcome on site, which was also shown in a live stream at the same time.

At the TU Dortmund, the first-time students were welcomed to the BVB stadium on Monday morning.

A university spokeswoman estimated the number of participants at around 3,000. "Everyone was happy to finally be there again," she said.

University rectors: 3G rule can hardly be implemented at NRW universities

Before the start of the winter semester in North Rhine-Westphalia, the university rectors in the state criticized the 3G rule at universities.

"The obligation cannot be met in terms of personnel and logistics for all event sizes," said Lambert T. Koch, chairman of the state rectors' conference of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rheinische Post (Monday).

Unlike in school, students changed study groups several times a day, which is why they would have to be checked more often to see whether they have been tested, vaccinated or recovered.

University rectors: 3G rule can hardly be implemented at NRW universities

After three pandemic semesters, the new academic year begins with a lot of attendance and 3G controls.

Only very large lectures should be offered online.

The universities must create access concepts and check the 3G at least on a random basis - for example with forgery-proof vignettes on the university ID, as in Düsseldorf, Münster and Bochum.

Medical masks must be worn in classrooms and lecture halls as long as the minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.
