Full lecture halls: Lectures at NRW universities started in presence

The lectures for around 765,000 students in North Rhine-Westphalia began in partially completely full lecture halls and with 3G controls.

"After three semesters, mostly organized online, life on campus is returning," said a spokeswoman for the University of Düsseldorf on Monday afternoon.

Most of the events at the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia will take place in attendance again this winter semester.

Around 600 people followed the first-semester welcome on site, which was also shown in a live stream at the same time.

At the TU Dortmund, the first-time students were welcomed to the BVB stadium on Monday morning.

A university spokeswoman estimated the number of participants at around 3,000. "Everyone was happy to finally be there again," she said.

Before the start of the winter semester in North Rhine-Westphalia, the university rectors in the state criticized the 3G rule at universities.

"The obligation cannot be met in terms of personnel and logistics for all event sizes," said Lambert T. Koch, chairman of the state rectors' conference of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rheinische Post (Monday).

Unlike in school, students changed study groups several times a day, which is why they would have to be checked more often to see whether they have been tested, vaccinated or recovered.
