The municipalities of Apfeldorf, Unterdießen and Fuchstal are the only association in Upper Bavaria to have been included in the new pilot program “Demography-Resistant Municipality”.

The aim is to make the communities fit for the future.

Measures are to be funded so that cities, districts and municipalities can actively cope with demographic change.

Apfeldorf -

The merger of the three Upper Bavarian communities of Apfeldorf, Unterdießen and Fuchstal is one of the winners of the demographic change, says press spokesman Dennis Drescher from the Bavarian Ministry of Finance.

It is important to master the growth, to bring new citizens together with long-term residents and to preserve identity in the communities.

The association Apfeldorf / Unterdießen / Fuchstal from the Landsberg district is exemplary for many communities in the vicinity of the Bavarian metropolitan regions.

Finance and Home Affairs Minister Albert Füracker presented the funding decision (up to 114,000 euros) to the mayors Gerhard Schmid (Apfeldorf), Erwin Karg (Fuchstal) and Alexander Enthofer (Unterdießen).

Corinna Sinken from the administrative association Fuchstal was also present at the meeting in Munich.

Individual and tailor-made strategies

“Other municipalities, such as in Franconia, are struggling with emigration, with us it's the other way around,” says Schmid, describing the situation.

He is the mayor of Apfeldorf and manager at VG Fuchstal.

The situation with kindergartens and schools or the offers for senior citizens on site are areas where measures for a demographically stable community can begin.

"We are delighted," said Schmid, commenting on the selection of the three communities and the financial support.

The challenge should be accepted with individual and tailor-made strategies.

The Ministry of Home Affairs supports the participants in the future-proof orientation with a total of more than 1.2 million euros, said Finance and Home Minister Albert Füracker when handing over the funding notification to the ten pilot municipalities in the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche in Munich.

A concept in four steps

The findings of the pilot project should therefore also be made available to other Bavarian municipalities. Seven municipalities or associations of municipalities (up to 20,000 inhabitants) distributed over each administrative district, a region, a district of a large city (over 100,000 inhabitants) and a district are active in the first funding phase - exemplarily for all of Bavaria - the demographic change on site opposite. You have recognized the topic as a challenge for yourself, are planning your own measures or have already implemented some.

In four steps, a home and demographic strategy should be developed that fits the different challenges: analysis of the situation on site, broad participation process, development of strategies with external advice and the initiation of initial measures.

The municipalities are supported for four years.

The urgency of the topic of demographic change is shown by the great response, it said.

Over 100 municipalities applied for the pilot program.
