Fundraising remains harder for start-up creators

DECRYPTION - Two years ago, around sixty French funds pledged to invest more in companies founded by women. Progress is slow.


By raising 40 million euros during their last funding round, Emmanuelle Fauchier-Magnan and Quitterie Mathelin-Moreau, the two co-founders of the Skello company, are an exception in the world of French tech.

Two years after signing the Sista charter, female digital entrepreneurs still have more difficulty accessing funding than male founders.

On October 17, 2019, 56 French funds had committed, by signing this formal document, to tackle this complex, recognized and even quantified subject.

In 2018, women start-up co-founders were 30% less likely to raise funds than a 100% male tandem.

Two years later, things have changed a bit.

There was a real shock of awareness in the ecosystem.

We see that the funds have taken the subject seriously,

”acknowledges Jessica Apotheker, associate director of the Boston Consulting Group BCG, author of an annual barometer on funding inequalities.
