The 13th Hamburg Theater Festival on Kampnagel started on Sunday with an unusual opening evening.

The project “The Glorious Seven” set up by director Jan Bosse brought together six stars of German-speaking theater with Fabian Hinrichs, Dagmar Manzel, Fritzi Haberlandt, Constanze Becker, Caroline Peters and Ulrich Matthes.

Hamburg - Tobias Moretti had to cancel his participation at short notice due to illness.

The actors presented individual short programs on mostly empty stages in solo performances - sometimes accompanied by music - most of them came from existing productions.

Hinrichs declaimed excerpts from a joint effort with René Pollesch.

Dagmar Manzel performed Samuel Beckett's powerful monologue “Not I”, with only her mouth being visible.

Fritzi Haberlandt played through moments full of vulnerability and longing for love as Doris in "The Artificial Silk Girl" by Irmgard Keun.

Haberlandt, Manzel and Becker also impressed with vocal interludes from Brecht / Weill to acoustically arranged pop.

Caroline Peters read from the novel “Der Termin” by the German-British author Katharina Volckmer about shame and self-hatred of a German woman, and Ulrich Matthes achieved a bitter-comic climax with a grandiose performance with “Schischyphusch”, a text by the Hamburg author Wolfgang Borchert.
