Berlin - The infection process in Germany seems to be picking up a little speed again.

The seven-day incidence * is higher than it has been in more than two weeks.

On Monday morning (October 11), the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) * gave the value as 66.5.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 66.1, a week ago it was 64.7 (previous month: 82.8).

In total, the health authorities in Germany reported 3111 new corona infections * and seven new deaths to the RKI.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the measures - was last stated by the RKI on Friday (October 8) as 1.67.

The comparative value of the previous week was about the same.

Corona in Germany: End of the free "citizen tests"

As of today, Monday (October 11), corona rapid tests are no longer generally free * in Germany, but mostly to be paid for yourself. The federal government is stopping the funding of the free “citizen tests” for anyone without symptoms. Since free corona vaccinations are possible for everyone, taxpayers no longer need to permanently assume the test costs, the reason was said.

The new regulation also lays down some transitional rules.

Children aged 12 to 17 and pregnant women can take at least one free test per week until December 31st.

In general, children who have not yet reached the age of twelve or who only turned twelve in the last three months before the test can continue to be tested free of charge.

It remains free, among other things, for people who need a test to end a quarantine due to a corona infection *.

PCR tests initiated by doctors or the health department are also not affected by the change.

In these cases the costs will be covered according to the information provided by the federal government.
